Post-Vaccine Escape to Zadun
Following an amazing stay at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Puerto Rico, I was ecstatic to hear a new Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Zadun, would open in my backyard of Los Cabos, Mexico (aka Far South Los Angeles). While some Cabo loyalists prefer to stay along “the Corridor,” I loved that Zadun is in the other direction and is just a 15 minute ride from the unique restaurants, shops and art galleries of the colonial town of San Jose del Cabo; you’re away from the year round spring break-ish shenanigans of Cabo San Lucas and can enjoy an amazing view of the peninsula from atop the cliff where Zadun is situated.
You’ll be greeted by your “tosani,” your personal butler, who will remain with you for your stay and is always a text away. There was nothing entry level about my entry level accommodation, an 807 sq ft interior Oceanview Room with Plunge Pool, with an expansive private patio complete with lounges and said plunge pool.
Aside from wanting a change of scenery one day and heading down to the main pool area, I really felt no reason to leave this incredible accommodation; why leave my own private sanctuary with its breathtaking views, choice of chaises, plunge pool and room service?! Because so many guests feel the same way, the resort never feels overrun with guests, even when it’s at full capacity. You will want to leave for dinner, though; the Friday night outdoor Peruvian fish market dinner overlooking the ocean at Equis and the Saturday night mariachi-accompanied taco fiesta at El Barrio are not to be missed. I’m still thinking about that octopus taco with smoky red salsa…
Aside from the personalized service and curated sense of place, another thing Ritz-Carlton Reserve does spectacularly well is its spa. Like its sister spa at Dorado Beach, guests will truly be transported to a sprawling outdoor oasis once they make their way past the threshold of Spa Alkemia. Tranquility awaits behind that thatched roof facade, leading to a private outdoor oasis where guests can enjoy a circuit of water treatment therapies before their spa treatments - or laze the day away afterward .
Cabo is no longer the sleepy coastal town it once was, with so many resorts to choose from and even more to come – St. Regis, Edition, another Four Seasons and possibly Aman. Hence, new entries to the hotel scene need to offer an experience and personality that set them apart. Zadun’s unique location, stellar tosani staff, phenomenal spa and on a personal note – the sense of calm and spirituality I felt when I was there – does just that.
